With the increased utilization of telehealth services resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, predictably, the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that they will begin telehealth audits. The planned auditing program will review Medicare Part B telehealth services and will commence in two phases throughout 2021. The audit plan is as follows:
- Evaluation and Management (E&M)
- Opioid Use Order
- End-Stage Renal Disease
- Distant and Originating Site Locations
- Virtual Check-In Services
- Electronic Visits
- Remote Patient Monitoring
- Use of Telehealth Technology
- Annual Wellness Visits
CMS will be reviewing these services to determine if Medicare requirements have been met.
In preparation for these audits, CBIZ has been working with a number of clients to ensure that these services have been coded and billed compliantly, specifically with E&M and remote patient monitoring. Should you have any immediate questions, concerns or needs regarding these upcoming audits, CBIZ can assist. For more information, please contact Adam Abramowitz at email@example.com or 609-220-5627.
